placental abnormalities in stillbirth and second trimester losses

Please provide your feedback: :

During my work with the Wisconsin Stillbirth Service Program, I have found that in stillbirths and second trimester miscarriages, including those attributed to "maternal causes" such as incompetent cervix, PPROM, etc. or acute placental and cord problems such as cord "accident" or abruption, the placenta is usually small with underlying chronic abnormalities. Detailed evaluation of the placenta in stillbirth and second trimester pregnancy losses may reveal underlying abnormalities regardless of other causes.
